Especially the evil queen's tower with the great roof tiles, CGI though it was.Katehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09314153391153507955noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8003694411394784130.post-37664275956910509752008-07-08T13:53:00.000-04:002008-07-08T13:53:00.000-04:00I've enjoyed this post and comments! And here I tho...I've enjoyed this post and comments!

And here I thought it was weird that my favorite scene in the Wizard of Oz is the aerial view when Dorothy and her co-horts are trying to escape the Wicked Witch's soldiers, and you see them swarming down the roof top passageways from both directions, past the crenellated castle walls, as they corner their prey in the tower room.

Just like an evil doll house, it was.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8003694411394784130.post-68827940610709810622008-07-08T09:54:00.000-04:002008-07-08T09:54:00.000-04:00I actually thought of another movie after I posted...I actually thought of another movie after I posted this - Sleepy Hollow with Johnny Depp. Kind of a hokey movie in spots but good God that architecture. As you know, my past is not in preservation, however I am a film nut and I’ve always taken a keen interest in observing the settings and surroundings of the story as much as I have the story itself. Hitchcock, being a favorite, was a master of using architecture to convey moods, as was Orson Welles, another one of my faves.

And you can't look me in the eye and tell me you watch Old School only for the fireplace. Will's run down the street has to count for something. I had a professor in my preservation grad program who made us watch horribly funny (or just horrible, to some) clips from the B-movie "Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death," just for the shots of FLW's Hollyhock House, which served as the cannibalists' temple.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15488851549709473088noreply@blogger.com
